The Waterboys are a celebrated British-Irish folk-rock band formed in 1983 by Scottish musician Mike Scott. Known for their distinctive fusion of rock, Celtic folk, and literary-inspired lyrics, the band has built a reputation for both innovative studio recordings and electrifying live performances. Early albums like A Pagan Place (1984) and This Is the Sea (1985) established the group’s signature “Big Music” sound — expansive, anthemic rock with poetic sensibilities — while later works, including Fisherman’s Blues (1988), showcased a turn toward traditional Irish folk influences, earning critical acclaim for blending authenticity with contemporary sensibilities. Over the decades, The Waterboys have continued to evolve, releasing a rich catalogue of albums that blend rock, folk, and alternative influences, including Room to Roam, Dream Harder, Universal Hall, and Where the Action Is. Their music is characterized by introspective storytelling, soaring melodies, and an emotional intensity that resonates across generations of fans. (en.wikipedia.org
