Pather Panchali in Indian Parallel Cinema Festival of Australia
About
About Pather Panchali
Considered one of the most seminal and brilliant works of his career, Satyajit Ray’s 1955 realist masterpiece Pather Panchali (translation: Song of the Little Road) was a perfect debut for one of India’s most important filmmakers. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, the film tells the story of a poor family in a rural village, focusing primarily on the children Apu and Durga. Pather Panchali has been universally lauded for its beautifully lyrical and fundamentally humanist portrayal of poverty in rural Bengal. It was immediately recognized by international critics and won major awards at multiple international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
Join us at the Indian Parallel Cinema Festival of Australia on the 9th of August 2024 at Palace Cinema Norton St in Leichhardt to view Pather Panchali on the big screen in addition to a Q/A discussion session with our chief guest – the son of Satyajit Ray and an esteemed filmmaker in his own right – Sandip Ray.
