About Event

Melbourne Hindustani Classical Music Society, Ghungroo School of Dance, Jay Dabgar and Saikat Bhattacharya are pleased to present a Sitar recital by Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, the celebrated sitar maestro. Described as ‘Indian music personified’ by The Hindu newspaper, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan descends from six generations of sitarists and was trained by his father and guru, Ustad Aziz Khan. He belongs to the rare category of maestros who have achieved both popular acclaim and are equally admired by other musicians and connoisseurs of Indian classical music. His playing style has inspired an entire generation of instrumentalists worldwide with his unique combination of emotional depth with brilliant techinical mastery. His renditions of ragas are considered benchmarks for instrumental music in the Indian music tradition. He has been a regular fixture at prestigious Classical Music concerts including Dover Lane Music Conference, Sawai Gandharv, Harvallabh festival and Darbar Festival. A recipient of the Padmashree and the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, he has a large following worldwide. He has also played with Carnatic (South Indian) Musicians and continues to be one of India's busiest concert musicians. Accompanying him on the tabla will be Shri Hindole Majumdar, a disciple of tabla maestro Shri Shankha Chatterjee.
