Royal & Derngate is a prominent theatre complex in Northampton, England, comprising the Grade II listed Royal Theatre, the versatile Derngate Theatre, and the Northampton Filmhouse. The Royal Theatre, opened in 1884 and designed by Charles J. Phipps, serves as a producing house with a capacity of 450 seats. The Derngate Theatre, added in 1983, offers a flexible space seating up to 1,500, accommodating a wide range of performances. Following a £14.5 million redevelopment, the complex reopened in 2006, merging the two venues and adding a creativity centre. Royal & Derngate is renowned for its “Made in Northampton” productions, which have gained national and international acclaim.
