Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre is a distinguished cultural and performing arts venue nestled within the University of KwaZulu‑Natal’s Howard College Campus in Durban. Established in 1981 and named after renowned academic and theatre pioneer Professor Elizabeth Sneddon, this historic theatre holds the distinction of being the first of its kind to serve an academic drama department in South Africa.
The theatre is known for its intimate yet professional performance space, boasting a seating capacity of approximately 400, and exceptional acoustics that suit a wide range of productions—from dramatic plays and musicals to concerts, dance performances, comedy shows, and corporate events.
As a cultural hub, Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre plays a central role in both the academic and public arts scene, hosting university productions as well as independently produced events. It also collaborates with the Centre for Creative Arts, presenting internationally respected festivals like the Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience and other major arts events.
