The Lesedi at Joburg Theatre

The Lesedi Theatre is one of the main performance venues within the Joburg Theatre complex in Johannesburg. It is a medium-sized theatre designed to host drama, dance productions, and other performing arts events.

The theatre has a seating capacity of approximately 251 patrons and a stage floor area of about 72 square metres, making it suitable for more intimate productions compared with the larger venues in the complex.

Originally known as the Fringe Theatre, the venue was later renamed Lesedi Theatre. It forms part of the multi-venue Joburg Theatre complex, which also includes the Nelson Mandela Theatre, People’s Theatre, and space.com performance space.

The Lesedi Theatre regularly hosts stage plays, dance performances, musicals, and experimental theatre, often featuring both established performers and emerging artists. It also accommodates community productions, festivals, and special cultural events, contributing to Johannesburg’s vibrant performing arts scene.

Located in the Braamfontein area of Johannesburg, the venue is part of one of the city’s leading cultural complexes dedicated to live theatre and performing arts
