Sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee, a leading figure of the Senia Maihar Gharana, is celebrated for blending the soulful depth of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee’s style with his own contemporary sensitivity. Trained under his father Pt. Parthapratim Chatterjee, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Pt. Ajay Chakraborty, and Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, he has earned prestigious honors including the Indian President’s Award and Aditya Vikram Birla Award. His groundbreaking project Shastriya Syndicate, the first Indian classical band with a modern touch, gained worldwide acclaim with their Times Music best-selling album Lehar. Accompanying him is the dynamic tabla virtuoso Amit Kavthekar, a disciple of the legendary Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain. With rhythm rooted in tradition, Amit has performed with icons like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, and Pt. Jasraj, and even graced the United Nations Day Concert in 2018. Together, they promise an evening of musical brilliance steeped in tradition and innovation.
