Designed by Noero Architects, the stadium is primarily used for local cricket matches but has also hosted football games, community activities, and cultural events. Over the years, it has played a notable role in South African cricket history, including hosting a first-class match between South Africa and England in October 1995 that ended in a draw, as well as several List A fixtures and matches during the 1998 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Beyond its sporting significance, the stadium remains an important community hub in Soweto, regularly accommodating festivals and cultural celebrations that highlight its broader social and cultural importance.
