Hamlet by Teatro La Plaza (PE) | 23 May 2026
About
A group of performers with Down syndrome step onto the stage to express their hopes and struggles through a bold reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Blending elements of the original text with their own lived experiences, the production explores the timeless question of existence—“to be or not to be?”—from a deeply personal perspective. It reflects on what it truly means to exist for individuals who often feel excluded from spaces where they are fully accepted. Historically labeled as burdens or overlooked by society, people with Down syndrome are here presented in a new light, challenging audiences to reconsider their value and place in a world driven by productivity, efficiency, and narrow ideals of beauty and success.
