About
Akbar Nizami and Gufran Nizami are celebrated exponents of Sufi Qawwali, known for their mastery of both traditional Astana Gayaki and contemporary styles. Belonging to the prestigious Sikandrabad Gharana, they carry forward a rich musical legacy that has produced legendary artists such as Ustad Qudratulla Khan and Ustad Kifayatullah Khan. Sons of Aziz-uz-Zama, Akbar Nizami honed his craft under the guidance of his brother, the late Ustad Ghulam Sabir Nizami, with whom he performed in over 4,000 shows since 1982. He further refined his skills in classical music under his maternal grandfather, Haji Ustad Altaf Hussain Khan, a Padma Bhushan awardee from the renowned Khurja Gharana. With a heritage spanning over 700 years, their musical lineage is deeply rooted in the traditions of classical vocalists, composers, and poets, closely connected to the spiritual legacy of Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro in Old Delhi.
