AfrikaBurn’s “Tankwa Town” is a temporary desert city in the remote Tankwa Karoo, created annually for South Africa’s version of Burning Man. Built by participants, it features camps, theme villages, art installations, performance stages, and self-sufficient infrastructure for 10,000–15,000 people. The festival celebrates radical self-expression, community, and creativity, culminating in the iconic Burning of the Effigy, and is entirely dismantled afterward, leaving no trace in the harsh desert landscape.
