Built in the mid‑1990s and inaugurated in 1998 for the Commonwealth Games, it is one of the largest stadiums in Southeast Asia with a seating capacity of about 85,000–87,000 and hosts international football matches, major athletic events, and large concerts and cultural events. The stadium is easily accessible via the Bukit Jalil LRT station and is a flagship venue for national sporting events in Malaysia.
