The first Methodist congregation in Smithville was held at the Corum School house in 1843. The church was later moved to Gosneyville, which is now known as Paradise. In 1923, Smithville United Methodist Church purchased and built a church on Main Street. In 2005, the church moved to its current location at 505 N US Hwy 169.
