The festival grounds consist of large open-air fields, multiple performance stages, camping areas, vendor zones, and entertainment spaces designed to accommodate tens of thousands of visitors each year. During the festival, the area transforms into a massive temporary event city with infrastructure for concerts, food services, merchandise, medical support, and camping facilities.
Since its founding in 1990, Wacken Open Air has become a globally recognised event in the heavy metal community, attracting major international bands and fans from around the world.
