Satinder Pal Singh, known professionally as Satinder Sartaaj, is an Indian singer, songwriter, actor, and poet, primarily recognized for his contributions to Punjabi music and films. He rose to fame with his hit song “Sai,” and since then, he has performed worldwide. Sartaaj made his film debut in 2017 as Maharaja Duleep Singh in The Black Prince.
Sartaaj was born in Bajrawar, a village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. He attended the local government school and began performing in Bal Sabhas (children’s gatherings) when he was in the third grade. Initially uninterested in a career in music, Sartaaj worked as a farmer before pursuing music professionally in his 20s.
His breakthrough came in 2008 when he was invited to perform in Toronto after organizers heard him sing on YouTube. This marked the start of his global career.
Sartaaj earned recognition in 2011 when he won the “Best International Act” award at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards (BAMA). He further cemented his place in the industry by performing at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in May 2014. His music video for “Udaarian” earned him the “Music Video of the Year” award at BAMA in 2018, and he won “Best Songwriter” at BAMA in 2017.
Sartaaj ventured into acting, debuting in the historical biopic The Black Prince in 2017, where he portrayed Maharaja Duleep Singh. He later appeared in Punjabi films, including Ikko Mikke (2020) and Kali Jotta (2023).
